Commencement Speech 2015

Here are some of the best commencement speech that I came across in 2015

  • Robert De Niro

Yeah, you’re f—ed. The good news is, that’s not a bad place to start.(3:10)

The renowned actor talked about how tough it would be for graduates to enter the moviemaking business. He reminded them that even rejections are difficult to swallow, they are very often not because of any personal reasons but reasons beyond anyones’ control. He also urged students to take chances and always focus on the next thing. Always look ahead and do their best, even things might not turn out as perfectly as it should be.

  • Natalie Portman

The point is, if I known my own limitations I never would taken the risks…(14:45)

Natalie Portman spoke about her life since Harvard some 14 years ago, how her own insecurities and inexperiences kept her being vigilance on things that she wanted to strive for. She shared how these rather “inferior” qualities worked best for her and how graduates should take advantages of those. Finally, she reminded the graduates on the importance of friendships and should always stay close their friends.

  • Stephen Colbert

Having your own standards would help you weather moments like that – having your own standards allows you to perceive success where others would may see failure…(10: 35)

Comedian Stehen Coolert delivered his speech on what he do best – to entertain the graduates with good sense of humour, referencing on things the graduates familiar with – snapchat, tinder, blue/white dress etc. In that, he reminded graduates that after graduations, there will be no one to judge them on how they would perform, therefore, it is important to have sets of standards so they could know what’s best for them, even other people might think otherwise.

  • George W. Bush

As I like to tell the C students, you too can be President!(8:53)

With a number of public speaking flops, President Bush’s speech was indeed a great surprise – not only the delivery itself but the message as well. He entertained the graduates about their campus life and how he associated with the university from his wife. He talked about how important graduates should use their knowledge to continue to influence the country no matter big or small. Finally, he outlined why he feel optimistic for graduates in entering the society as America upholds the value on freedom and liberty.

  • Tim Cook

For you graduates, the process of discovering yourself, of inventing yourself, of reinventing yourself is about to begin in earnest.(8:50)

Apple CEO Tim Cook talked about the importance of finding values in life and being committed on your own values. He explained how important it is to find meanings and doing things to enhance other people’s lives. Script
